The "Racketeer," by John Grisham; Characters dealing with the main conflict.

In the book the Racketeer, by John Grisham, the main character is Malcolm Bannister. Malcolm is in a minimum security prison, serving a 10 year sentence for a crime he never committed. Half a decade has passed, and Malcolm might have finally found a way to get out of prison. The main conflict in Malcolm's  life, so far, is prison. Prison is a scary word. It is defined as: a correctional institution where people are confined while serving time for committing a crime. Malcolm is willing to do anything to get out of prison. Malcolm is an ex-lawyer, and he was arrested for being caught up in a conspiracy that he never took part in. Granted he could have been a little more aware of what was happening, it's not his fault that he got cuffed and thrown into a camp for a decade. Since Malcolm was a lawyer he helped people in prison with their legal situations. He ran across a guy named Quinn Rucker. Quinn soon became friends with Malcolm, and he told Malcolm that his family's business was drug trafficking. Quinn's cousin had been arrested on illegally obtained evidence, and the judge sentenced Quinn's cousin to the maximum amount of years for the crime. Quinn told Malcolm that his family bribed the judge and he took the money but didn't rule in their favor. Quinn told Malcolm once he was out of prison he would kill the judge and get back the money.

Malcolm saw an opportunity to get out of prison when he caught wind that the judge Quinn promised to kill was murdered and his safe was found empty. Malcolm is very intelligent and he found a way to make a deal with the FBI, since they did not have a clue who muttered the judge. He told them about Quinn and what he told Malcolm in prison. By doing this Malcolm, in return for selling out Quinn, got to walk free with a new life, and no more jail time. His records would be expunged, and he would go into the witness protection program to get a new identity. He overcame the challenge of prison by making a deal. Since Malcolm was friends with Quinn do you think he should have told the FBI about Quinn?

  1. I read a book by John Grisham first trimester. I read Playing for Pizza and it was a very good book. I really liked how he wrote the book so I might pick up this book later this year.
